gelding licking mare (on shoulders!)

My gelding recently (last 2 weeks) has been licking my mare all round her shoulders and neck. Its really wet, slobbery licks and he seems desperate to do it, if you pull him away he will start straight away again. Does it the same whether shes just been ridden/sweaty or isnt sweaty at all.

Any ideas why hes doing this?

They're both not fed atm but was thinking of getting them a paddock lick to see if that helps. Shes always in season (literally!) so dont think anythings changed there!

I'd say its for salt

so a mineral lick is probably a good start...or as BB said its "lurve"

A paddock lick is a good idea anyway!

I would inagine he is needing salt.
