Last night my poor 17 year old mare was mounted by a rather large gelding. He has managed to cut open the insides of both her back legs and her girlie bit is very red and swollen. I have spoken to the vet and they are coming out. But why has this gelding done this? How can it be prevented? In our herd there are five geldings and my mare, then yesterday two new mares where added to the herd, one of which is in foal. I've been around horses for the last 18 years and i have never seen this before. They are in a big field, with huge amounts of grass. Any Ideas? x
