Hello we have a stallion who is deeply bonded to a mare he bred last year. He wants to be beer her and be with her but can’t because we don’t want another baby next year. I was just wondering if after gelding him there would be any special thing he would need.

One thing to remember is that you cannot really put them together for around 2 months after gelding in case he has retained some semen and as you say you do not want another baby.

There are definitely members on here who have had stallions older than that gelded. Hopefully they will come and give some advice soon. I think the main thing you will need to take into account at the moment (if you have a good vet who is willing to operate during this pandemic) is the fly situation. They really can cause awful trouble with open wounds - think maggots - and it's a hard (impossible?) place to keep fly free.

Long term, I'm sure he'll be happier gelded and living with your mare, you just might have to wait for the autumn.

Are vet is coming next Monday to get it done. Are fly situation normally gets bad around July. Thanks for the help.
