Gelding suddenly started acting like a rig

I've owned my 8yr old TB gelding for 2 years and whilst he used to be very bolshy he's never acted riggy. In the last few months he has calmed down a lot and is generally well behaved. I don't believe he was cut late as passported as a colt and was gelded then.

However over the last few weeks he's taken rather a fancy to one of the mares (who is in season quite a lot at the moment) and is displaying very riggy behaviour. He apparently tried to 'get at her' over the stable door and yesterday reared up at me and struck out with his front legs when I tried to separate him from her.

I'm wondering whether I should get the vet to do a blood test, or try a calmer such as global herbs or hilton herbs. Just after some opinions really.

Thanks in advance :)

Mine can behave like this. He does a lot of squealing and prancing around when a mare on the yard is in season. He raced as a stallion but don't think he was ever bred from.

This is what happens to his neck if he goes near the ladies

Pigeon my gelding does the same he will puff his self out to make him look bigger and parade up and down the fence, he mainly does it when the geldings from next door come to the fence, he will chase my mare away from them too, he was cut at 4 but his never tried to mount anything.

There is one gelding in the field next to mine and he is obsessed with my mare he just stands at the fence calling for her when she is in season I think its just how some geldings are.
