I wonder whether anyone else has experienced this: my 7yo gelding has recently started (in the past 12 months - it is not seasonable) getting excitable if he is out at a competition and can hear the sound of a horse walking on concrete/a road, but can't see them. It has happened once when he caught sight of some horses in the distance hacking to a venue. If I am on him, he starts piaffing and generally loses the plot, walking backwards, sideways etc, but either way, he becomes unrideable. If I am not on him, he gets restless and tries to break free from the lorry etc and generally gets his knickers in a right twist. Everytime it has happened, he has urinated within 30 seconds of hearing the other horse.
He is stabled at a busy yard where horses are walked around all of the time. I have had him 3.5 years and am assuming he was probably cut late and this is the reason for his behaviour, but would be interested to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience. Perhaps I need to start feeding him the gelding equivalent of oestress!
He also wees everytime his haynet is put up in his stable.
Thanks!
