I've recently brought a gelding who is in the same field as my mare. Is it normal for geldings to mount mares? And still produce jizz sorry for TMI. He was gelded just over 2 years ago.
My gelding would do the full works including penetrate at livery before I had him but no foals ever came out.
I would be cautious with it cause of the obvious safety issues but also do you don't end up with a foal if he's a rig. Seperate them when the mares start to show seasons and pay particular attention to the last few days of it when they are ovulating.
My boy regularly does the deed with a mare in his field although she is very encouraging. He was cut late and had covered mares but he is definately not a rig. If you are worried get in touch with your vet
My gelding was never interested during all his Riding school days, but when turned out with a mare last spring suddenly (aged 16) "discovered girls", lol. They went far enough for me to be concerned that we might have the patter of little hooves, but that hasn't happened! This year she has moved to a paddock with other mares and I am relieved not to have to worry about the potential for injuries to either. He obviously still has a soft spot for her as he was a bit of a twit about going for our hack when she came back from her schooling session today!
Condom and hot chocolate machine and cigarettes if they smoke should be put in the field, well according to the Montellie barefoot school of naturalmanship said in their semen-arr..
We have a gelding at our yard that will mount any mares and produce er... stuff.
Had clean said stuff off my mares behind a few times before I put my foot down and said I didn't want her in that field with him.
He's been tested and is not a rig, but now he's in a field with just him and his mare companion, but they're both owned by the same person so that's her problem!
