Hi all

My horse has been rather stressed in general these past few weeks? And I'm struggling to get any good work from him and he's storming round his stable etc when he's brought in

In may he was turned out with a mixture of mares and geldings, which he has never done before and I'm starting to think this is the problem, if the mares are now coming Into season?

He definitely is leader of the herd with all the horses flocking back to him when he's turned out, with him shouting his head off and acting like a stallion ( quite dangerous when he's 17'1hh and I have to cross a road to get to his field! )
There's 15 in the field and he is besotted with 3 of the mares.

He's always been very sensitive and relaxed and never shown such bolshiness, his mind is clearly not on coming in and doing any work!

Will he get used to being with the mares and calm down back to my normal lovely horse?!?

I can't see that the YO will split them into mare and gelding fields just for me, so not really an option. I've only been at the yard a couple of months and loce it there, but if moving him is the only option then I will have to :(

What do you think?

Sounds like he's in love !! At our yard the mares and geldings are separated and away from eachother for the reasons you describe. Sounds like you need to negotiate or unfortunately, move yards.

Hi,

This sounds like my horse when I first got him a year ago, I thought he was still a bit riggy, someone suggested magnitude

I have never looked back to be honest, mares and geldings are in separate fields down my yard but my boy would chase any horse that went near his mares, now he doesn't even go near them. I used it for about 4-6 months.
Think its about £20 for the tub.
Might be worth a go.
