am pretty new to this, not used the forum before! basically am about to be the proud owner of my first pony and just need a bit of advice about general stuff.
i would appreciate any advice on insurance companies and also any saddlers in the west london area that people know of that would come out to help get him a good well-fitting saddle...and just any tips people could pass on!

firstly , welcome to the forum!
dont know of a saddle fitter but insurance companies often recommended on here are SEIB , KBIS, NFU , im sure other people will come up with some more.

Hi there

Welcome to the forum, im pretty new myself, though now a newbie not a stranger. Doesn't sound very nice does it? Stranger lol. An not from your area so would not know about saddlers but e+l insurance[equine and livestock] is great and have most competitive price. Can tailor make a plan to suit you by asking you simple yes, no answers. You can go to there website for a quote. Have been with them for five years now. Have phoned many others in mean time to see if i can get a better deal, but found all want double that e+l charge. Have fun with your new pony and any advice you can ask for on here, or just to share your fun and woes.

Hi there.
I use NFU and have (fingers crossed) never had to use them, but have always heard good about them in event of a claim .
Have fun x

Insurance I woudl recemmend Carrigehouse, i am insured with them and have fantastic service, beware of E&L as have heard some horror stories regarding actually claiming.

As for a saddler I couldnt really advise as not that local to you have you tried you local riding establishments as they maybe able to advise of someone good in your area.

And finally welcome I hope you have many many great times with you pony

Hello! Welcome to the forum - mind you don't get so addicited here that you never get round to actually seeing you new pony! lol

In terms of insurance, I'm with SEIB. I've found them pretty competative and they were very resonable about an old injury my horse had when I bought her and accepted a vet letter rather than asking for a 5stage vetting. They had lots of flexibility too in terms of loss of use and vets fees etc. I've heard that E&L can be very tricky if you actually want to make a claim and I've also heard lots of people praising NFU.

Good luck and make sure you post some pics of your new pony when he arrives!

Hello and welcome

I can highly recommend NFU for Insurrance. They are reasonably priced and settle claims in an efficient and professional way. I'd also say when your pony arrives, arrange to have his teeth and back checked by a qualified equine dentist and equine physio - even if the previous owners say this has been done. I've found that despite what people say its worth doing because even if they have had someone out, they may have used someone unqualified or just not very good. Also be careful about feed. Sometimes quite small changes can produce changes in behaviour (usually a high fibre, low starch diet is best).

Good luck and have fun

They have a terrible reputation, so bad that the Vets won't accept being paid directly by them (as they do for all other companies) because they don't pay!!!

Eeeekkkkkk dont touch E&L i beg you!!!!!!!!

They dont pay out i know 3 people that have had to take them to court to get any money!

A car ran into a friends pony and refused to pay because she wasnt wearing flouresent leg wraps on all 4 legs ( she was wearing them on the 2 off side frount and back and was wearing a tabbard and hat band!!!!!!!!!!)

Another friend had a horse who broke a leg and the vet had to put it down and they refused to pay out because they wanted the horse to be boxed out for xrays and another vets independant opinion sought. Who cruel would that have been on the pony!

I wouldnt touch them if they were the last insurance company on earth id rather put money away every month as pay any bills myself.

Disgusting company shouldnt be allowed to trade! I think nfu are brill tho thats who im with.

I used E and L and had a huge claim for my mare who was kicked and fractured her splint bone. She had 2 major surgeries and total bill was £4500. I had to pay 17.5% of this and they paid the rest without difficulty direct to Oakham Vets.
Although the excess is quite high, I had no issues with them paying out.
However, the surgeon who refused to euthanise my horse rather than perform the second op is another matter....
Poor mare had to be destroyed some weeks later.

Hi welcome to the forum, Im sure you will soon be addicted . Just want ti say ditto about EandL I have 1st hand experience of trying to claim for very staightforward treatment. Wouldnt use them again for anything. Hope you have loads of fun with your new pony. x x

I was recommended NFU by my vet, if they say they are good then it means they are getting paid!!

Had to claim for a hefty bill this year for arthritis in merlins fetlock and they have had no problems sorting it out for me. They even paid for a relatively new therapy (merlin was the second horse my vet had treated and the licence had only just been granted) Irap... which was well expensive.
