My Golden Labs almost 12! we've had him since about 18 months and i cant beleive it! I switched his collar to a harness because he's very strong and always pulling so i'm trying not to hurt his neck. Also he can't jump in the back of my micra anymore ater a walk. It doesnt have to be long walk or anything. I think its his back legs

. Can i give him any supplements or any suggestions? I was going to buy a ramp to take on walks but it wouldnt fit in the car with him in the boot or would a seat in the front of the car be better with a seat belt? I'm just looking for some general advice on how to make his life more easier as i have no experience with older dogs and should i be looking for any warning signs of illness etc now hes getting on?

Also, i'm just interested if anyone knows about his breeder or has any of his brothers/sister? His mam was called bayhood miss muffet and dad called onetam shamus? I think his breader was A Green and somewhere near whitby/redcar? he was born on 23/06/98. Thanks just interested

He looks great for his age!
I would perhaps be scaling back his exercise and not be asking him to get into the car if it is getting to difficult for him.

I just googled 'Onetam' 'Onetam, labradors' and 'Onetam, gundogs' and it came up with lots of results, hope that helps.

A search for 'Bayhood, labradors' took me to this forum, someone there might be able to help?

I'll only take him the beach as weekend treat and just go round the feilds during the week.

Does anyone have a dog ramp? Are they any good?

He looks so like my old boy! I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some Lawnwoods back in his pedigree somewhere, or one of the other kennels that was on Barney's pedigree because there really is a resemblance

Barney's back end also went

In his case it was spodyliosis (sp?) of the spine. He had little protective boots for his back paws as they scuffed along the ground sometimes, and I lifted him in and out of the boot

I remember our vet telling us not to dramatically change his exercise, just to keep him pottering along gently. Barney was on metacam and chondroitin supplements.

He looks good for his age, and like I said, could well be a relative of Barney!
