I would like to do a working hunter class with my mare and although I think I have to do some sort of ridden show and some rustic jumps, I really have no idea of how the whole thing runs!

ie do you do the showing bit or the jumping bit first and do I need to be wearing a hacking jacket or will a show jacket be ok? Also am I likely to be dropped down in places due to lumps and bumps on pony? ...it's only a local show but thought I'd better be prepared!

Thanks!

in the show you do the jumping first and if you go clear then you go back in with the other clears and do a ridden show.
i think thats how it goes not sure about jacket though! sorry!

A hacking jacket will be ok for a local show

hacking jacket, shirt and tie.

class will go something like this.
you go in jump course of rustic jumps, then exit the ring, after everyone has jumped the steward or judge will call people back into the ring, if it is a big class then normaly only the clears go back in but its entirely up to the judge.

you will then be asked to walk trot and canter as a group, then change the rein and trot and canter as a group on that rein and sometimes gallop.

you will then be called into the line and asked to do an individual show walk trot and canter on both reins (only a very small amount of walk) and a gallop or extended canter on one rein.

Hacking jacket is the norm regardless of level,
You jump a course first then all clears or all at some shows get bought back inthe ring.
You all show paces including forward canter/gallop then the judge will pull in the inital line up.
Judge will then either watch individual show or ride.

Hope that helps!
Also you can have boots in jumping phase!
