Is it me or does there seem to be an increase in freeze marked horses being stolen? I've just been browsing through the stolen pages?! I thought freeze mark had a 100% success rate?

Also, after having a trailer and tack nicked last week, we found some of the tack dumped in a field. It had been reported to the police but no one had thought to tell us!

When speaking to a local land owner who caught some people stealing farm machinery, he said the police advised him not to press charges because they'd return and burn down his barns!!!!

Whats the world coming to? :(

Gosh that is depressing! Was the tack useable? As for people coming to burn down barns, the police do seem to fear certain people and feel ill equipped to deal with them. Whose fault that is I am not sure!

He built a new barn with security cameras - i think the yobs were responsible for breaking into the back of a wooden securely locked stable and nicked a quad bike.. this happened a few months before fire..

It is not a new phenomenon!

Some years ago in broad daylight I saw about six ****** stealing a woman's trailer.
I parked my LR across the gate behind their van - they were cutting a wheel lock off the trailer. Legged it up the short track to friends house and called the law.

There was a heck of a confrontation with four of us stood in the road. These men were telling us they had permission to borrow the trailer.

When the police arrived they saw it was ****** and didn't want to know. They said there was nothing that could be done as they had not actually stollen anything.
That was true but they had ruined the wheel clamp. I was told to move my LR and let them go.

In reference to the freezemarked horses, I got the impression this was Cally attempting to reconcile the numbers for horses that have disappeared in the last decade.

I'm not sure i understand what you mean mtj?

I'd really have hoped freezemarking would act as a deterrent, because if you know they can angle grind your gates off, what is there left that you can actually do?

I don't understand why the police don't clamp down on this sort of thing. The people who had their stuff pinched from my yard went to check out the local horse fair and they said that tack was changing hands for cash. You didn't have to register to bid or anything so it's just a total free for all. Steal it, sell it and away you go.

I wouldn't mind but everything was UV marked and visibly labelled? It didn't stop them pinching it.

Do you have actual figures re the stolen horses rather than browsing? I seem to remember that the total number of horses stolen in the UK is actually quite low. Some registered as stolen are missing horses on loan or similar circumstances. Also, have heard of freezemarked horses being stolen then found turned loose later. Do the stolen pages get updated properly?
