I need to get a generator to run the lights & power at my new stable block. Does anyone have any recommendations? an electric start one would be preferred.

Thanks

Whatever you get make sure it's 2.5kVA minimum if you want to boil a kettle. More would be better. You can get away with something much smaller if it's just for lights.

The most important thing is you calculate the total watts required by the items you intend to run off the generator. Electric starts do tend to be more expensive but well worth it. You may be surprised by the total watts you actually need.

Hope this helps

I would also want to be able to run clippers as i'm fed up with running off a car battery!

I have a Honda eu10i and it's fantastic - I honestly can't say enough good about it.

It's a small portable genny which is light & easy to pick up and a dream to start. I sometimes have it running outside in the rain before I realise it's getting wet & put it in the shed and it's never complained. I did want an electric start for ease but it starts every time with one pull and is so easy a child could do it.

I run 4 x stable lights plus one outside light from it and it does all these no problem, I've never tried anything more as I have no need, but we did check the wattage of the lights before buying it and it has plenty of capacity to spare.

I run my clippers off it too, sometimes for up to 2 hours at a time and it hasn't ever given up. It uses surprisingly little fuel too.

Definately worth a look if you are looking to buy a genny, it was about £900 I think and they do a bigger version for about £1,200 if you need extra power.

If the site is not particularly secure you migh do better with a larger secondhand geherator in a sounproof cabin (red diesel)

I would vouch for the Honda any day, but I must admit I have used Wolf power tools with no problems and for the money, the Wolf unit pictured looked a good bargain. Would echo the sentiments re the E Bay stuff. There are lots of Chinese "Honda" looky Likeys floating about which are very poor quality. Avoid at all costs.
