Also have a post in the Lounge, but would like to know from anyone who understands genetics.....what is our new foal?

Mother is registered APHA palomino from a long line of cremellos, buckskins, palomino tobianos.

Father is my lovely registered APHA tri-coloured bay roan tobiano from black tobiano parentage.

Little foal, born last night, has pink skin, pink around eyes, pink muzzle, silver-green eyes. Being an infamous NON-palomino fan I have absolutely no idea...can you tell me what colour this foal is as I need to register her correctly. Thank you.

Thanks guys. I have till the end of November to send in her papers so I think you are right - I'll hang off and wait and see.

Looks palomino to me. Her eyes are dark and the pink skin will turn dark in a week or so. Is her tail white underneath? She has that fawn colour that many paly foals have when new born.

It looks palomino to me, it is possible because if she got the cremello from the palomino mum, then if dad is bay tobiano but his parent was a black tobiano, then the black tobiano could be either black/black with the tobiano gene or black/chestnut with the tobiano gene both would appear black tobiano, so lets say it was black/chestnut tobiano and it past the chestnut to the sire of you foal which was hidden because it was a tri colour/bay tobiano, the foals sire could have put the chestnut in and mum the cremello - voila palomino! **pant pant pant** if you got to the end of that without getting lost reward yourself with a big pat on the back!

I also ditto wait and see what it looks like when the coat starts shedding - gorgeous foalie

Now that does make some sort of sense to me HG, thank you!

Delphi; I believe she is pink underneath her tail. I will run back outside and have a closer look though.

All of mine have white under the tails and are born with pink skin which for some reason goes dark very quickly (within a matter of days). I'm sure she's a paly. I'll e-mail you a picture of Derek at a day old, haven't worked out how to get pics on here!

Pretty sure she's a palomino, assuming dad doesn't carry the creme gene so can't be cremello, as you need two creme parents to produce the CrCr

Very cute!

Hi delphipuppy! Glad to see you joing in! How is lovely Derek doing these days? delighted to hear that Vanilla is in foal to him for next year, can't wait to see what that combination produces.

Yes just like that the pink skin will be black in a few days, I have just realised Tia has gone to look and see if it has white skin under the tail, sorry Tia I meant white hair!
Am still recovering from an adoption, mare arrived Sunday and they successfully bonded on Thursday so as you can imagine I am shattered from no sleep, still brilliant outcome so thats the main thing.

Thank you so much everyone.

LOL!! You and me both!

It was the eyes that were confusing me - I've never seen a horse with silver-green eyes before ..... trust one of mine to put a spanner in the works, LOL!!

This probaly won't help at all but I was looking through a horse book (Complete Handbook of Horses and Horse Riding by Judith Draper/Debbie Sly andSarah Muir) last night and there is a photo of a palamino saddlebred with pink skin around the eyes and a pink muzzle. The eyes look blue.

Just though you might be intrested to know. I could scan and PM the pic if you like? Its only a head shot though.

. Well of course I've been out playing with Breeze today - foals are so much fun! Legacy isn't too sure what to do when Breeze comes up to play, but I'm sure she will have a lot of fun in the next few days. Golden (Breeze's mother) is now allowing her to go a little further afield without being concerned and I am SOO impressed with how Golden is still looking after Legacy the way she used to before her own foal came along.

I've always really liked this particular herd and now I like them even more!
