On the subject of jodhpurs, breeches, whatever makes is used...

OH really wants me to replace my Shires Saddlehuggers as both pairs now have holes in the stitching in the seat and crotch area.

In fact, she has already thrown out one pair.

Looking to spend no more than about €50, not interested in having suede or silicone panels anywhere, just something comfortable, washable and preferably with a zipped pocket big enough to hold something bigger than a sixpence.

So I really like the Mark Todd Softshell ones for winter, Equestriman if you want something other than boring colours and the Aubrion (Shires) Walton Mens Breeches

Think they're from £50-£70 a pair

Thanks for the ideas. Equestriman's slogan "NO MORE BEIGE!" made me chuckle.

I took a look, and they all have silicone at the knees.

After asking my instructor and not getting much help from him ("just look online and at the price; for riding one hour a week you don't need anything special") and a woman who recommended Equitheme (but men's sizes in that brand stop at 48 and I need at least 52 or 54)...

After looking in online catalogues (Padd and Kramer) and not finding anything in my size at a reasonable price...

After learning that the closest Decathlon shop closed down over a year ago...

I ended up ordering four different pairs from Amazon (two HKM and two Pfiff, all between €41 and €45). Unless they are all exceptionally good, I'll keep the best two and send the others back.

It's annoying that I can't buy from a more local shop.

The tack and clothing shop in town stocks only children's and women's clothing; even when I wanted a crop, the choice was between one in brown, one (expensive) in black, or twenty in various shades of purple and pink. The last thing that I bought from there was my anvil.

Well, all four pairs are going back. The 54 size pairs are too slack and those at 52 have nasty rubbery seats or knees.

Back to ordering Shires and some unknown brand at €36 to try out.
