Need some help here all you nice folk. I have a friend that buys a project horse every year - ones that most people wouldnt want to work with, untouched and generally rescue cases that nobody wants. She spends as long as necessary getting them right, handling, schooling etc. She gives them every opportunity to have a ongoing future as an allrounder, they all leave her as happy horses and she is very choosy where she lets them go to.
Anyway, this year she has bought a completely untouched and nervous Welsh section D gelding about 15 hands. Nice looking chap, she has had him about a month and he is quite happy now plodding down the road fully tacked up and things have been improving as they normally would do (she has a real knack with these horses)
Now here's the bad bit. She has since seen he has sarcoids on his inner thigh and sheath. Hadnt noticed previously as he was too nervous to get underneath to see and has had to sedate him to get a good look. She is obviously gutted. She feels these need treating but he is too nervous at the moment to let anybody near them. She feels that with more patience and time and more trust that these can be treated but she doesnt have this amount of time and feels that at the moment his future is limited or certainly been put on hold.
She feels she has two choices -
Firstly practically giving him away to an excellent home who would be prepared to put in the time and effort to sort the little chap out to enable him to be treated or -
Have him pts so he doesnt end up in the wrong hands as she doesnt want to see him in some sale ring ending up at the meat market.
She is a genuine horse lover so please don't judge her, she is set to lose money here and most people would have had him shipped off to the sales to recoup some money - not her, she is not like that, she is in bits at the moment over it all.
So the question is could anybody offer this lovely little chap a chance. Somebody with a bit of patience and time and I am sure this horse will make somebody a lovely ride or companion for another or pet?
Or - any other ideas please?
