Am I being an awful soft bum prude but isn't he having a few nice socks in the mouth? What a gorgeous horse and a brave rider mind, they really do make them tough in Ireland!!!

I think I literally did  when when I saw this ad last night- you couldn't pay me enough money to jump those ditches. Then again i think I'm becoming a big wuss :p and there's a lot of things I wouldn't jump anymore. I'd love to see what the rest of the hunt involves!

i have just looked at that ad, fair play for the cob to do it! even if it has got the bit wrapped round its back teeth.

There are dykes as big as that in Lincolnshire hunt country, my sisters' horse is the best dyke jumper ever, she insists she always slips her hand under his martingale neck strap to avoid a sock in the gob!!
Iam always worried about them nose diving the bank at the other side.
What a wonderful cob though, if it was in England I could buy it her for Xmas and says "Heres your next dyke jumper!!" Gosh Iam a kind sis!!!

I actually don't think his position is too bad and wouldn't really say he's socking it too badly in the mouth - jumping Irish banks like that requires a totally different style of riding and the rider has slipped his reins to give the horse its head but has maintained enough of a contact should the horse peck on landing. I personally would have prefered him to drop his hands a bit but all in all not too bad!!!

I've hunted with boys like that - they know what they're doing.

I don't do banks/ditches, I'm an only child and I'm not a good enough rider - I'm not going to bereave my parents for the sake of following the big boys, not for their want of trying!!! - but I know you have to do what you have to do to stay upright and have seen the consequences for those who have gone easy.
