Well, I went over for my lesson today which I've been looking forward to for a couple of weeks
Olympic and I worked in but I think he was finding the surface a bit knackering so he really wasn't going forwards (Geoff has sand and Lymp is used to springy waxed surface) so he was tired bfore we'd started. The first comment we got was that he really wasn't going forwards, there was no power and that he could do one speed of canter and then go a bit faster but not come back to me at all.
Geoff put up a x-pole which we popped over a few times on each rein and then we stopped to go though what was going wrong (after he'd finished talking about what Iw as doing I really had no idea I did half of it!
). I said at the start that he will take hold in front of a fence and run into it but I had no control and after the fence he was hard to stop so Geoff stood there for a second, took of his spurs and put them on me (I'm used to little knobbly things but his were much bigger so I was abit
).
We went out onto a circle and had to really get him up into the bridle and really shorten the canter and practice stopping quickly then going straight off into canter again and after a couple of minutes Lymp felt fab
We then went onto jumping a 90'ish'cm upright with a placing pole and v-rails with a bouncy canter approach and a stop soon after landing. We started of a bit crap but quickly got the hang of it and his jump was so much better (I was well and truley out-jumped a few times aswell
). The upright went to an oxer, then the excess poles were taken away and we did a 3 jump course (of the oxer a 90'ish'cm upright and a 1'ish'm gate), we made a couple of mistakes (got in a bit deep) and normally I'd sit there doing nothing having a panic but instead I kept him together and actually rode him.
I'm so chuffed, I came out of the arena feeling 100x more confident than when I went in
so I'm looking forward to WL on Sunday
Sorry for a long ramble
