Today was our lesson with Geoff Luckett, which was scheduled to be held at his place which is about 30 minutes away from my yard. However, due to the rain last week it was re-scheduled to Weston Lawns, a good 1 and 1/2 hours away *yawn*

Hey ho, got up at stupid oclock with mother in tow, and went to the yard. Got 4 mucked out, 2 put out, two on the walker and loaded the lorry.

Set off just after 8:30am and headed towards the M1.
Traffic was great, and we had a smooth run all the way, arriving just around 10am.

The facilities at Weston Lawns are fantatsic, lots of arenas with great viewing.

Anyway, Snoop travelled well, and off loaded and tied him up with his hay - he was far more interested in my sandwich than his hay.

Went off to see how Nicky was getting on with the most stunning horse ever *Ross* He is the same age as snoopy, but a strapping 17.2!!! and with just as much attitude.

Anyway, looked like they were working over grids, with poles over each stride, incorperating V poles for straightness.

I tacked the boy up quickly and hopped on half expecting him to act up like the past 3 days, but nothing, a complete lamb!
Waltz into the arena and introduced himself

We warmed up as Geoff looked on. Snoop settled well, quite quickly and started to work nicely, although still onward from yesterdays xc exploits.

Geoff asked us to canter smaller circles to gain more control and keep the canter short. This worked well until i came round a corner and a fence was in our way, little sausage was off lol took a bit to take him off the fence lol
We continued, and then went on to jumping over a small x pole, from trot. All fine, and G told us that would be the last time we would trot today lol - must be a show jumping thing
wink.gif

Canter poles (3) infront of the first x pole and poles there after to further fences which were put up later.
The next time i came in canter i struggled round the corner so geoff put two further poles out to act as a funnel.
This really worked, he also gave me some tips on how to improve the canter round the corner which i will practise this week.
The fences started to get slightly bigger, and snoop was answering every thing. G was impressed with how bright he was, he also thought, that snoop thought he was a stallion LOL
Anyway, on then to a fairly imposing looking oxer with two V poles - I was under instruction to get this perfect, and perfect we did
smile.gif
I would LOVE to see the photos as he jumped it amazingly well - the vid didnt quite show HOW brilliantly he got in the air.

Well G thought that we should leave it there, as he had jumped so well - but Horse Mag wanted us to go again so they could take more photos, so we did lol as it felt so good the time before
smile.gif

Well we went a further two times, and although it wasnt as BRILLIANT as the time before, they were still good and I think they got loads sequence photos which was what they were after.

We finished and I was dead chuffed.

Will try and upload some sort of vid later this week.

Sounds like he was born to be a three day eventer then - plenty of work to knacker him out first then he starts behaving
smirk.gif
Not sure where that will leave you with the dressage though

Well done on souped up snoop sounds like you had fun and that he was not feeling the effects of yesterday at all.

Am really, really jealous. It sounds so good. Glad Snoop was a good boy, and impressed everybody.
You wil let us know when the article will be in magazine won't you.
Fiona

Glad it went well.

I know all about the trot (should have warned you)
tongue.gif

First jump I did with geoff was from trot. He asked me if I normally started from trot and when I replied "yes" he wanted to know why. "Urmm, dont know"
Never jumped from trot again with him (or Steven).

Sounds like you had a great lesson and Snoops was a star...again!

I think i should try Geoff (or Steve) for some lessons.....as i'm still trying to 'train' my instructor that Bo and i just don't do jumping from trot
tongue.gif
It's definitely an eventer vs sj'er thing lol!

Sounds like a fun lesson and let me know when the mag is out.

I've always been told you should never jump from trot and also don't do trotting poles stick to canter poles as it encourages a horse to break to trot when you jump them.

Fanks all.
I have no idea if we shall make the magazine tbh, there were 3 of us there, meant to be two but there was confusion.
Hey ho, they have lots of pics so maybe the odd pic will turn up in future magazines?

Nickys horse looked to be going brililant, didnt get to see Kp123
frown.gif
as I couldnt leave snoop unattended (just in case).
3 very different horses, so i guess the magazine will use what they feel they need?

All in all, it was a fabulous experience and thank you to Horse Magazine for making it possible
smile.gif

Fantastic! What a brilliant day you must have had. I'm not jealous, honest! He must have heard your warnings and decided to put on his halo; hope it stays on for a while.
Can't wait to see vids/pics.

x
