Hi all, thought I would just update you on how George is getting on. He had his neurectomy and fasciatomy (?sp) op on 16th July and came home on the 19th. Thankfully he has been completely calm and chilled about the boxrest, which was a nice suprise :)

Unfortunately he came round from the GA badly :frown3: and really bashed one of the incisions, it didn't damage the work done in the op, but a week after coming home it was clear that the swelling meant the staples on the wound wouldn't hold and we ended up with serum pouring down his leg - oh joy!

For whatever reason the bandage on that leg would not stay on so my vet decided that the best thing would be to leave the wound open and cold hose 3 times a day and slowly let it heal. Thankfully the other leg healed beautifully.

The wound is healing well, but slowly, but it does mean the rehab is a bit slower which is no bad thing.

The good news is that his shoes are back on :smile3: and he is allowed two 10 mins walks a day and some hand grazing (which he loves with a passion!). So things are progressing, I just wish the wound would heal and we didn't have serum dripping down his leg - but the vet is happy and says the serum is normal after a trauma and helps keep things clean, it is just a bit yuck :eek3:

I've not missed riding as much as I thought I would, and I have enjoyed spending lots of time on the ground with George - every cloud and all that.

My insurance is practically spent which is a bit of a worry, but my family have offered to step in and help if I need it which is so kind of them, as I was getting very stressed about it :frown3:

I think that is about it for now, thanks for reading and thanks to those who have asked after him :)

All in all good news. That's the thing about the GA - always the risk they might do some damage coming round. Well it all sounds very positive now.....I know what you mean about not missing riding......too busy nursing for one! Sending lots more vibes for a continued good recovery.........x :)

Glad to hear that the news is positive. You're obviously doing a good nursing job. I hope everything continues to go well.

Thats a good update to read! Well done with the nursing. Yes I wouldnt worry too much about the serum - it is there to do a job which is to keep the wound clean. Glad you are progressing to being more mobile, and best of luck for onwards and upwards! :-)

Really glad to hear that George is on the mend, I've been lurking on your threads and am so pleased that things are getting better for you both - sending you lots of happy vibes.

So glad to hear it's all going well and he's not too stressed out by the box rest. It will all be over before you know it and you'll be back riding him in no time!

Wishing George lots of good healing. Time and care will do the job and he sounds as if he is in the right hands for that to happen. : )

I was hoping for an update so thanks for letting us know how George is getting on. All positive news and I'm sure the wound will heal soon, it just seems like it's taking for ever when you are going through it.
