I think GH books and lectures on biomechanics are excellent and well worth any rider hearing.

That is where it stops though. Having seen him ride in the UK clinics he will never be going anywhere near any of mine!!

If anyone gets the opportunity to attend the biomechanics lecture then I would highly reccomend it (with the warning that you will need to filter out many of the cult like GH fans that follow him around like lonely puppy dogs!)

You must read the material first to be a critic.......at the clinic I saw him ride 4 horses and then mine, he did not abuse any horse in any manner. I challenge you to read some of the book and would be certainly alarmed if you did not agree to its context ......booboos

Typical do as I say and not as I do? However I think the books are spot on and if he rides that badly he should stop demos. Still results are v difficult to show short term, and he will be getting problem horses which need remedial riding.
His heart is definitely in the right place re welfare. He accepts criticism which is more than a lot of poster here manage.......

I am a bit surprised that you are so familiar with my horse's health but not with my (numerous) posts on rollkur. I have read Dr H's book a number of times and also various pieces by him on the internet.

Here is my assessment of the quality of the arguments in Tug of War

I've read 'tug of war' and was very impressed. However I have never seen him ride.

It seems to me that anyone would need to be a very good rider to get on strange horses in clinics and achieve any improvement in a short session.
So, he's human.

Unfortunately, he appears to be playing into the hands of the pro-rollkur brigade.

I'd be more interested to know if he has trained his own horses long-term and how his riding looks then. Anybody know/have pictures or better still, video?

It's all old school this PK, GH stuff... don't you know all the cool kids are following Pat Parelli now...

Chuck yer books out... invest in decent carrot sticks... diamante ones available on special order.

:D

But, Jenniaddams.... there's so much money burning galaxy sized holes in my pocket.... what ELSE am I supposed to spend my money on?

I think I paid about £45 to attend the biomechanics lecture. Approx equivalent to 1 lesson. He is an incredibly good lecturer and I felt the money was very very well spent. The books are okay, but not a patch on the visualisation you get from the lecture.

I went to a different lecture tweaked for producing young horses. It wasn't nearly as good, had aspects of the biomechanics but not meaningfully translated into training techniques.

I would not refer to GH for any form of training with a living horse!! BUT use his work from a veterinary/biomechanics, which is presented clearly and with great energy, and incorporate it with your routine trainer
