I am currently borrowing a sprenger kk ultra full cheek from a friend - its the first time I have tired anything not steel on my mare and it seems to be having the desired effect.
No tongue sticking out!
Although I feel the metal of the bit is correct I really need a baucher type as she can be a bit strong at times.
So while browsing about for one I got to wondering about the differences between the Salox metal, the augrian metal that sprenger use and the german sliver versions.
I am reluctant to pay the price for the sprenger versions if another version works just the same.
What are people's experiences of the differences ?

My mare definitely goes nicely in Salox and Aurigan. I won't change that as far as I can see.

I recently bought A KK Dynamic and have seen an improvement again, but I feel more to do with the shape of the mouthpiece than the material.

I would never even try a german silver bit tbh as they are actually Nickel I believe.

Sorry I didn't really explain myself. I am hideously allergic to Nickel, it gives me a really painful, swollen, weeping rash.

Nickel is no longer allowed to be used in jewellery I believe because so many people have allergies to it.

Because of this I wouldn't want to put it anywhere near anything as sensitive as my horse's mouth, lips and tongue!

But that's not to say that many horses are actually allergic? Might be more of a human thing, but I am biased!

Nickel is a slightly warmer feeling metal than Stainless.

So the copper content would be making the metal feel warmer than SS.

Any % Nickel would give me a reaction though. There is a lot of sensitivity to it.

I see, I may very well try the cs one then. Or if I can keep it secret from OH I will try the neue schule. (he doesn't like to think that I spend more on the horse than on him)

I just checked that out - and there isn't a lot of difference really. £44 for the German sliver and £57 for the NS. Although with P&P i'm looking at £62 for the NS and that's if they class the IOW as uk mainland(some companies don't!) It will be £65 if not!

A vote for the kk - I have had lots of bits, the ns don't seem to be very hardwaring get a lot of teeth marks in a short space of time, and I have read that they can break!! Had my kk ultra for 12 mths, no marks and a fabby bit IMO!! (Even tried NS pelhams!) x
