Germany Disbands Teams

I've never seen anything like it. In a way though I admire them for such a bold step in their determination to find out whats going on and reinstate credibility if needs be.

Brave step by the Germans,I really admire their determination to sort it out-ALL sport HAS to be "clean".
Had no idea arnica was a banned substance though

OMG!!
This is massive this is unpresidented! What the hell is going on.
This must be deep rooted for them to go so far. But like you said, good on them, not sure many countries would react so credably!

I use to work for a sports governing body and was involved with the drugs testing so fully support the Germans.

...but i also have tickets for the kur at the europeans so hopefully they will get this sorted pronto

I think whats very honorable is that they have pulled up everyone, very big names. I cannot imagine anything that our big names would have to do so that our governing bodies would find some teeth.

Its a very strong message that they are going to play clean or not at all.

Agreed it is good that they are taking a stand as it is a clear message to all those who think their name allows them to flaunt the rules; but, why on earth is arnica a banded substance?

im not quiet following this banned substance thing, arnica i thought was a homeopathic substance and when you read about the olympics and the substance capsicum which is the natural vegetable .... are we taking this too far and all horses are allowed is water and grass ???... i think horse welfare should come first and if a horse needs needs to lick or eat a red pepper because its strained a mussle whats naturally wrong with that? we are asking them to do a lot more than they normally would..

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think some of the weird, homeo stuff is banned because it can be used to cover-up other nasty substances and applications.

What i dont understand is the banning of substances which are proved not to be performance enhancing.

Whats the point, why are they banned??!

Any substance that provides any sort of pain relief (Arnica and Capsaicin included) HAS to be performance enhancing by its' very nature....surely

Now I see why they had what would normally be thought of as their 3rd string Nations Cup team on duty in Rome, and perhaps why Ludger pulled out of La Baule 2 weeks back.

he jumped in Hamburg though although marco kutsher is probably wishing he hadnt.....Goldfevers teeth marks are doubtless an attractive sight by now. And it isnt the Arnica that is prohibited but what it is mixed with.

Yes indeed, the Federation is obviously not (yet) stopping them competing, but presumably will not put them on teams. He had been named for La Baule, but was then replaced.

to be honest i am not sure what the Germans and the FEI are trying to achieve, despite good intentions they are just dragging the already sullied name of the sport further down in the eyes of the general public. According to the FEI web site it was they who called for the suspensions.
and SJFAN what is going on in rome I just got home and cant find a result anywhere but I know you know!! x

Good, exciting NC with the USA just hanging on to their first round lead to beat France by 4 faults. GB equal 3rd with Switzerland. Good old John & Peppermill had a double clear - the only male rider to have this distinction. The others came from Ashlee Bond, Penelope Prevost and Clarissa Crotta.

Penelope Leprevost will almost certainly make the french team now i think, despite their preference for boys! but that horse is a jumping machine. and just as well we got some points to be honest, it wasnt just the gemans missing some of their A teams was it? so well done John, peppermill clearly likes Rome!

Yes her horse is superb - made it all look easy and was actually the best of the lot. Peppermill was lucy to get away with leaving the stile (fence 9) up in the 2nd round. Your pal Kevin with Prestige St Lois jumped a fine 1st round but had the in of the double down in the 2nd - that fence caused more trouble than any other. Both Nick and Michael had it down in both rounds.

kevin will still be pleased with that, as Le Prestige is his second string horse.....I think the french will be the ones to beat in windsor tbh.

What happens about the Euros? Can they still compete at individuals?

That's a tough stand to take but can see why they're doing it

The point is, in the public eye, some names can't be dragged down any lower really.

They have to ''prove'' their innocence now, that's the idea behind disbanding the teams. This investigation will not be conducted by the FN, but by the German Olympic Committee, and does include hearings of the FN officials as well. The possible Kutscher/Nolte/Haring-FEI-suspension, is another affair - just one of those that lead to disbanding the teams.

They have already had to drop the marco kutscher one, there is no evidence. And as it happens it was one of the contributing factors to this suspension according to the latest press releases, particulary the FEI's who asked for this set of suspensions, when Ludger was the 'last straw' with his admissions. But they cant 'prove' their innocence or anything else months or years after the 'crime'.
The news is a bit slow gettting here though, there was talk of little else in the Hamburg press room last week, until Marco got gnawed by Ludger's horse......

I have to say that the whole doping thing gets me angry as whilst yes some people have been (and certainly should be) caught using genuinely performance enhancing drugs...HOWEVER...having worked with team horses and indeed taken a horse to Athens, the whole list of what is and isn't allowed is simply LUDICROUS!
For instance.....PURPLE SPRAY is a banned substance!!!!! I remember our boy getting a scrape before we flew out and I went ot put some on...the Irish trainer was there and she literally freaked!!! We couldn't even put SUDOCREME on!!!!!
The Keratex Thrush Buster is also banned as it yet it's main ingredient...FORMALDEHYDE.....isn't!!!!!!!! Let's see...we cannot use the mild antibacterial treatment but we CAN use emnalming fluid???
I really do feel for some of those tested positive as the rules are taken OTT, as I am sorry yes performance enhancing drugs are one thing but bog standard creams such as sudocreme are in no way enhancing anything other than helping to heal a cut or scrape!!

Same here.
Had a look around for naughty lotions and potions and was shocked at some of the things on the list
crazy.gif

Of course everyone wants to stop those who would cheat getting away with it,but no-one in their right mind would want to stop riders using creams and sprays to help heal cuts/bruises as any other horse owner would.
Surely horse wellfare comes first?

HELLO??? Where were the german national equestrian federation 27 + years ago!!! This is NOT new news!!! ABUSE has been going on for years and BEEN ignored!!!
