Gertie needs a posh name, all witty/clever contributions gratefully received

Graffendale Less Pokey (this requires perfect dressage poise to carry off, and may get you meanie minus marks from the judge if ever above the bit in your tests!) ;)

Baydale Hokey Pokey - knees up Mother Brown!!!!!! :)

Worth the Grafft - Coz she's gonna be a winner once trained

Baydale Graffiti - this would work better if she was coloured, any chance she will grow into a skewbald????...

Dirty Gerty - Couldn't resist! ;)

Baydale Fenstolz Flyer - I like this bit of Daddy's name 'Graff' sounds a bit butch for a mare

Gert Big'un - because we all know Baydale likes 'em big ;)

Graffdale Diva - she's a mare after all!

Hhhhhmmmm.....think brain has reached its limits now......ouch..... head hurts.....cake please?.... :)

Cake is on its way, if only because of the effort you've put in! I quite like the idea of putting "Diva" in there somewhere as she is a proper little madam; Dirty Gertie is good too, and we use that a lot. I'll let you know if she turns skewbald but I think it's unlikely.

I really like this and

Baydale Amazing Grace, but obviously the poor little girl has a lot to live up to with that one! The commentators could have a field day!

Agree with Chloe ... Dirty Gerty was the first to spring to my mind.....poor girl! LOL

Amazing Grace has probably been used a lot to, but Amazing Gertie doesn't sound right does it?

Instant Grafitude

Grafification (try saying that after a glass of pink stuff...!)

Grace and Grafitude ( after an olivia newton john album!)

Graffic Gertie

Graffic Pokey

Graffic Hokey Pokey

Told you I wasn't good at this ;) You do know that Cal ended up being called Cal because his dads name was Cal and he was known as Cal Colt until it eventually got shortened to Cal ;)

Hmmm, I quite like Graffic, HG. Good job my OH renamed Cal, isn't it? Obviously "Cow" is a much better name...

What about Giraffe, as she does have a neck that comes out straight up? See, I'm no good at this.:(

Ahhh... see Mr FigJam would love to know there actually was a horse called Giraffe McPokeynose (see... can get the other bit of breeding in there too! ;) ) out there... it's his favourite nickname for Hopalong when watching her do dressage!

I am amazed my entry makes the shortlist but will await cake with great excitement! :D

Some great suggestions, you will have a hard time picking a favourite. :)

PS- also loving how about 50% of folk seem to have picked up that poor Gertie's name is Grace?! :p

Graf Goshenite Gertrude

It's supposedly the mother of gemstones and it's cleavage is 'poor and in one direction' (who knew gemstones had cleavage?) which whilst you probably don't want a reminder of this year, her name will always remind you that you've battled tougher and harder things when she decides to give you a bad dressage test or something. It's very pretty too, just like Gertie :D (and if it's clear, it's in purest form so links to the Grace bit).

Had a thought of another one (or lots) for you ;)

Good Girl Lollypop (sorry, couldnt resist :p)

Billy Goat Graf (again, sorry :p)

Graf Go Gallop

Go Go Gadget

Graf Landmark

Graf of Grantham

Graf de la fiti (LOL)

sorry, having lots of fun here :o

She-Graf? :P

Do like Griff Graff, and Grafitude (or Gertitude (sounds like something out of the magic roundabout!)).

I'm really rubbish - always inherited names, some good -
Water Font (not Waterfront as commentator constantly got it wrong!),
Dekoras (nice and simple. You'd be amazed at the mispronunciation we get at shows though);

And some dodgy -
AKA The Lady (just a really **** name),
Rainbow Venture - (wtf!!! Had brilliant breeding, grandson of Sadlers Wells and I got Rainbow Venture!!)

Couldn't resist this - was one of my dads favorite sayings when surprised

Galloping Gertie

Oh, how sweet of him.:) You must tell me what accent he has, if any, as I'm picturing a West Country farmer-ish accent. (there's probably something Freudian about that but I wouldn't have a clue what:eek:).

I havnt read the whole thread so dont know if its already been suggested but can you not just have Dirty Gertie from number thirty?!! :p :D

Well, 'Graf' is used in titles of German nobility so 'Pfalzgraf Grace' would translate as Countess Grace. Is she chestnut by any chance because I think 'Grace Under Fire' is a lovely name.

That's interesting, andraste, thanks for that. No, she's not chestnut (praise the lord;)) but I bet the next one Grace produces is.

I'm just a bit worried that, much as like Giraffe McPokeynose:D, it may not be great when she fails as an eventer and I try and sell her as a dressage horse.;)

Victoria sponge or chocolate crispie cake?:D

Maybe I should call them all Grace as she - Grace I - seems to like producing girls for me. I'll pretend that Myrtle was adopted so she doesn't feel left out by not being called Grace.:p

You do wonder where people get their name ideas from don't you? At least I can blame the whole of HHO.

So Griff Graff is a popular choice so far.:)
