Hi Everyone

As horse owners, many of us want a lasting memory of our equine companion. In 2011, I wondered how I might set about having a bracelet made from the tail hair of my Fell pony. I discovered two things. That it would cost a lot of money and secondly, the designs available did not appeal to me. So instead of having a bracelet made, I decided to make one myself.

I created a blog where you can find out how to make a bracelet or necklace you can be proud of and enjoy.

If you fancy having a go at making a bracelet yourself, have a look here and get tips on how to set about it :)

I've wanted to learn how to make these, but I won't use base metal findings as they look cheap and I don't like to wear base metal anyway, but I've had SUCH trouble finding a good place to buy silver findings as I don't really know what I'm looking for/search terms to use, so if anyone's got any advice?

Haha, I could have done with this blog a year ago!! I wanted to get a horsehair bracelet for my friend's 21st, however being a student meant I couldn't afford the ridiculous prices... Therefore I went on a mission to discover how to make them. I too didn't like the more traditional style of knotted braids and wanted to do something more unique. I spent hours and hours finding out about different styles of braids and how to do them. I settled on kumihimo braids because they not only look pretty, but they are also easy to make!

I now make and sell handmade horsehair jewellery using a kumihimo braid. I love them and you can get such beautiful and individual designs with them... Here are a couple I have made - the first picture is the first horsehair braid I ever made!:

Yes they are! Kumihimo gives the bracelet a great look. Like you I researched for quite a long time before I found and liked kumihimo braiding. Perfect for horse tail hair.
