Get Your Shavings While You Can!

[ QUOTE ]
My supplier was talking about a shavings shortage too. Something to do with China buying up all the wood........

Well, after the 10,000 tonnes that washed up along the south coast recently...all of which has been authorised for chipping by the insurers...i reckon the 'shortages' should ease soon enough

It'll have to look sharp, a firm down south have already laid off four of their drivers because they have no shavings to deliver and no prospect of any for a while either.
It's not panic buying that is the problem it is the supply or rather lack of available shavings that's the trouble. That is not scare tactics, it is a fact my feed merchant is very worried about, naturally and not just for his pocket either.

Ah heck, I'll just go to straw then, or some other alternative bedding.
Thank goodness we don't live in drought-hit areas of Australia, where the shortage is of hay and other forage, and there is nothing for horses to eat on the land!

Ingatestone are limiting to 6 bales of shavings per vehicle of one certain make, ive moved over to a different product that is much easier to get hold of due to this, it is slightly concerning though

I was up my local feed barn yesterday and saw two people come along and pack a load of shavings on board vans. Rather unusual for a quiet Wednesday afternoon I must say! I do feel that it's the panic buying that causes the shortages, people reacting to rumours. Our barn say they can't get Hunter shavings at the moment, but they've got perfectly acceptable alternatives.
And really I think there are worst things than not being able to get hold of a particular type of bedding. Or am I just too laid back?

Hi, we are in South Wales, we buy in bulk (pallet of 18) from our supplier and pay £5.60 per bale. My Mother lives in Herfordshire and is paying £7.00 per bale, absolutely crazy.

I heard it was down to a shavings factory burning down up north plus the building trade. Mole Avon down here were rationing, someone even told me some dealer had stopped stocking. I'm on Aquamax now
