Well my bargian devoucoux arrived and it fits Blaze, and I fit it, so all good. However I would like it checked by a professional to make sure. I am a little wary of letting my saddle fitter loose on it as it is rather special... wonder if there was any particular way they were altered/reflocked etc? Is is safe to let my saddler have a look at it?

Or should I ring Devoucoux instead?

I think it is almost perfect on him but want to be sure.

Huge huge thanks to Jules for finding it for me

It's just a normal saddle with an expensive name- any good saddler will be able to check and adjust it

Glad you like it. I love my sister's Makila

the devoucoux rep for our area is really nice and helpful, she fitted a saddle to mare and said any problems they will come back and look at it,
PM me if you want her no!!!

Personally I would get a pro ordinary saddler have not been impressed with some Devoucoux reps who are only generally trained in fitting Devoucoux saddles and do no have the knowledge of a fully qualified saddle fitter.

devoucoux saddles do not have the same stuffing in them that most saddles have and so are not easy to adjust, I would get a devoucoux rep but as someone else said some are better than others.

I had a devoucoux dressage saddle on my horse for 8 years, it never needed any adjustment as it does not flatten in the same way normal saddles stuffing does so never went lumpy like some normal saddles do but it just molded to horse and adjusted itself to his weight changes through the year. Best saddle I have ever had and I have had a few, good luck with yours.

Devoucoux saddles have "panels" that are adjusted differently to normal saddles, so a normal saddler can check the fit, but probably wont be able to change it. Devoucoux fitters are £ to get out though!

I would have it adjusted by Devoucoux, but if they don't get it right make them do it again! The charming M. Devoucoux attended in person and himself adjusted my saddles on a makeshift table in the stables... Was free, though, because they hadn't got them quite right first time round (needed more wither clearance). Suspect he's a bit busy to do that these days, which is a shame!

Have you looked on Devoucoux's website to see how they construct the saddles?

On re-reading, if you think it fits both of you I'd be inclined to ride in it for a bit and see how you go. If you're both still happy in a couple of weeks time I don't think I'd bother having it checked. The smooth, flat foam panels are kind to the horse's back and unless it is tipping one way or the other or obviously not quite right, I think you will be fine.

Obviously, just my opinion!

Get it checked by your regular saddler but be warned - if you need the panels adjusting the Devoucoux reps have to send the saddle back to the factory in France so it's expensive. There's a guy who advertises on Ebay (just type in Devoucoux MOT) who will do it cheaper - not used him myself but he's supposed to be good.

Devoucoux'a arent normal saddles that any saddler can adjust !
Please get a master saddler that you trust to check the fit, then you will need to get devoucoux to adjust.
I recently had major fitting issues with my 2 new devoucouxs - couldnt resolve the issues - even with Mr Devoucoux himself coming out twice ! So I got a refund. They may be able to do adjustments on site if you pre warn them. Dont know what their call out etc will be as when buying directly from them its all free.
I hope the saddle is perfect for you both.
