Mum's dog, who has pancreatitis, is having a flare up and hasn't drunk anything all day. She is a fussy and neurotic collie at the best of times, any suggestions what to try?

I would ring the vetn for advice. They might want to put the dog on a drip

TBH I can't believe they didn't take the dog to the vets today - but they didn't. I am trying to get them to take her tomorrow morning, it was just a thought that someone may have an idea on tempting drinks.

If you are cooking plain chicken breast via boiling for her to eat, then you could let that water cool down and offer it to her? Must not offer her anything fatty. Is she eating at all?

Pancreatitis is very painful and not to be messed with. Phone call to the vet might be needed.

You can syringe some water into her by inserting the end of the syringe between her cheek and her teeth while holding her head up slightly. Can you check whether she is dehydrated (pinch test?). If she is badly dehydrated it will be more urgent to get her to a vet obviously.

Thank you all. I am not traipsing over there tonight so I will only comment on what I know.
Dog hasn't eaten or drunk since yesterday, has been sick overnight, is sad and 'down' .
I hope plain chicken is being cooked for her, it usually is when she is under the weather.
I do think that they underestimate how horrible pancreatitis is, and how painful.

Mine get their kibble floating in a full bowl of water. They drink the lot... But I imagine the kibble being so dry offsets the water intake a little. But some lean cooked mince in basically a broth might do the trick?

Pancreatitis is extemely painful. She wont want to eat or often drink if shes having a flare up as taking in food stimulates the inflammed pancreas to produce digestive enzymes and causes more pain.
They need to see a vet.
The longer they wait the more expensive and prolonged the hospitalisation is going to be and the higher the risk of complications.

I get that, and tbh I think they should have her put down as they worry about the costs. She is lame as well and very old, so it wouldn't be unreasonable. Either put up (with the cost) or put down, poor old girl.

8.16, when you posted this was not particularly late in the evening. I appreciate that this is not your dog but I would have gone over and then rung the emergency vet, if necessary. The poor old girl will have been in agony all night. How do you stand by and wash your hands of that?

You can't solve all the worlds problems, all the time. Just the way it is. I wasn't paying a late night's vets bill.

She was taken this morning and given a jab and seems much happier.
