Mum's dog, who has pancreatitis, is having a flare up and hasn't drunk anything all day. She is a fussy and neurotic collie at the best of times, any suggestions what to try?
I would ring the vetn for advice. They might want to put the dog on a drip
Pancreatitis is extemely painful. She wont want to eat or often drink if shes having a flare up as taking in food stimulates the inflammed pancreas to produce digestive enzymes and causes more pain.
They need to see a vet.
The longer they wait the more expensive and prolonged the hospitalisation is going to be and the higher the risk of complications.
Thank you all. I am not traipsing over there tonight so I will only comment on what I know.
Dog hasn't eaten or drunk since yesterday, has been sick overnight, is sad and 'down' .
I hope plain chicken is being cooked for her, it usually is when she is under the weather.
I do think that they underestimate how horrible pancreatitis is, and how painful.
8.16, when you posted this was not particularly late in the evening. I appreciate that this is not your dog but I would have gone over and then rung the emergency vet, if necessary. The poor old girl will have been in agony all night. How do you stand by and wash your hands of that?
