Getting a horse really white

Unless they have a skin condition I dissolve a few mugs of washing powder in a bucket of hot water & use it to bath them with, scrubbing well into yellow stains & leaving to soak for 10 mins. If its really rank i'll use concentrate liquid (persil is my preference) on it too. Just be very careful to avoid delicate areas & rinse well.

I'm helping groom a pony ready for the show season but he just doesn't want to be clean. He's got very yellow stains on his back legs and I just can't shift them.

Any ideas?

Gallop stain remover is brill but expensive but last's a long time.:p

Shame we cant use bleach lol

I've got one who has white legs, who is really dirty in his stable and he lays in it every night! The result is an ingrained orange/yellow stain which doesn't wash out using the standard range of whitening shampoos etc.

This year I clipped his legs, meaning I've been able to keep on top of rinsing off the stains quickly and easily every morning, and having clipped legs means I can dry him quickly with a towel. This has helped a lot, but I still have a yellow stain on his hind thigh. However it's bareable and not as awful looking as last years deep orange stain! If I'm showing I chalk it, which hides it a treat.

I washed my coloured horse yesterday as he was very dirty. His feathers were stained yellow. Dermoline insecticides shampoo brought him whiter than white make sure you leave it on for at least half hour.;)

im following this post closely as needing some inspiration for coloured mare.. just got some purple shampoo to see if works but failing that ive been told to try vinegar and water.. got lots of good ideas to try here though :)

Im lucky my lads hocks are coloured (ones black ones bay) but he's sensationally good at getting all the other white bits mucky. I use purple shampoo. I don't bother with the gallop stuff as its so expensive and I've found bog standard human purple shampoo works so much better.
