Hi,

Has anyone done this? I think I need someone to ride one of my horses but dont know if I can trust anyone enough as hes very precious as is just coming back into work.

Has anyone done it? Or would you wait?

I would only considor it as hes such a dude, easy and trustworthy but dont know if I can. I mean its a big trust thing letting someone ride your horse esp one that has had a problem and that has the potential to still be mega.

What do you think?

Ive been loaning my horse for about a week on my own now as the owner lives abroad. He is extremely unfit and overweight but she has trusted me to do what i like with him. Im bringing him back slowly just short hacks and walking in the school and slowly will be increasing it. Hes an IDxTB with the potential to do some decent dressage.

I went for it as its nice to have something to work on and get results, not just jump on something thats ready-made. It will be worth it in the end! There will be people out there knowledgeable and competent enough to do it but it may take some searching!!!

The horse I share had only been in work for a few weeks when I started riding him, after a year off.

Yes you do need to be able to trust the person, that's obvious, but there is nothing wrong with it, and no reason it can't work perfectly well.

In some ways it might be more ideal that way as they can "grow" together - start off slowly with the basics etc and would probably be better for everyone's confidence etc that way.

You just have to make sure you do your utmost to find the best person, and if you do maybe do a month trial or something before you "commit"??

The thing is he knows his job, hes going adv med on the flat (including 2 time changes and cater pirouettes) and he can jump (although not sure I want him to go proper big jumping again, esp just yet)

So its having someone that still will look after him without pushing him too soon.

Maybe Id be better with a happy hacker. I did get asked today if I would let a para rider ride him as she wants to try to get to PSG but Im not sure hes posh enough for that lol
