my cob mare"s tail is a right mess muck wise, she dosent lift it up when she has a pee or poo, its took about a month to work out why it is brown and always a mess the lady at the sanctuary seemed to think it is actually brown its that stained, is there any hope in restoring its white colour or am i going to be wasting a lot of money trying, she has masses of it too,

wash, wash and wash! my boys tail starts getting brown/yellow within a matter of days and I wash it at least once a week. Before going out I will wash the tail 2 or 3 times then leave it coated with a lot of baby oil! also could try leaving it in a loose plait which helps as well

im sure someone on here used to use Daz! fairly cheap.

ive always used Wahl diamond white shampoo with good results on my mares white tail that stains badly.

Lots of washing and conditioning! But I've recently found vanish oxy-action spray is really good for stained tails! Spray loads on, rub it in and leave in for 10 mins before washing out. Then cover in coat shine/ conditioner/baby oil to stop dirt sticking. Good luck :)

im thinking or at least a years worth of washing before i get a few yrs of stained brown out, is it ok to plait up when shes turned out?

curtain whitener! I used to share a grey who liked to stand with his bum against the wall and poo all down his tail and a packet of net curtain whitener, plus blue shampoo really did get it white and sparkley again :)

I second the Daz powder, mix with warm water and get a froth, and its this froth that you need to put on the tail and to soak in it, used by top show producers.
