Getting Coloureds Clean??!

Hi everyone,
I'm taki Trevor to a rally on Sunday and since he's been going out overnight for a while, he's now sporting a whole range of grass & stable stains and he needs a tidy up before our rally! So I was wondering what shampoo you use and what your method is to sitting your coloured clean? :) Also, if you use a conditioner, which one do you use?
 
1 - scrub stains with a cactus cloth or dandy brush (provided horse will let you get a proper scrub!)
2 - shampoo any offending areas with cheep supermarket own brand shampoo or fairy liquid.
3 - shampoo white bits using 'Touch of Silver' (old ladies shampoo from the chemist)
4 - leave the shampoo on for 5/10 mins
5 - rinse and repeat if needed.

Unfortunately with stains you really have to get rid of them daily to maintain glorious whiteness!! I keep my geldings tail plaited 24/7 unless we have a lesson/competition, and everyday scrub his hocks/knees with the cactus cloth to try and reduce staining!!

If all else fails you can always buy white hair spray and prey it doesn't rain!!
 
We find cowboy magic very effective - but I'm tickled and the thought of the "Touch of silver"! Might use that next time on seriously yucky appie!

Honestly, having tried all the stain remover shampoos and whitening stuff, Touch of Silver is amazing!!
 
My fail safe method:

1. Wash horse in soap flakes, and just watch the filth escaping. Rinse off.
2. Wash horse in Tesco value (or equilivant cheap shampoo). Rinse off.
3. Final rinse with some of the blue stuff from Supreme products.
4. Wash mane and tail with Tesco's value shampoo.
5. If legs are needed to be whiter... use chalk powder.
 
We use Loreal purple shampoo on our (6!) greys and it gets them sparkling :) use with scrubbing methods explained above and leave it on for a couple of minutes (but not too long as it really does turn them purple!) and then you would end up with a unicorn....although I am very tempted to do that with mine :D
 
I use Wahl Diamond White shampoo and Supreme Products whitening chalk powder for my horse's legs especially. Mine isnt a particularly dirty coloured though so isnt too difficult to get white. His tail takes a bit of work though. Need to wash it many times so normally give myself a couple weeks of washing it every few days to get it whiter and whiter!

1) pre-treat any really minging bits with cowboy magic, it's the mutt's!
2) warm water (always warm water) into which goes head and shoulders, a blue shampoo and a slug of stain remover.
3) starting at the top apply shampoo water with a sponge
4) using a brush work in circular motions. It's a clean and massage all in one :cool:.
5) apply neat shampoo to any really bad bits and scrub.
6) by the time you've got to the bottom the shampoo's been on long enough to...
7) rinse with warm water.
8) scrape dry.
9) apply C&D&M dream coat and mane and tail and bob's, as they say, your aunty :D:D

Ok... I taking bathing far too seriously :o

But what about flies? I like mine to be natural for swishing ability against flies.

Gorgeous horse!

Mine was washed twice and wrapped up in a fleece and bandages then bits rehashed as necessary on the morning of the show. Baby wipes for dust etc whilst at the show:

That's one seriously smart cob!

Here's mine whitened up to the max!! the judge asked me for tips on how i got her so white :D:D

Blue shampoo, lots of it in hot water then also neat on specific stains. Use a dandy type brush to scrub if necessary.

You may need to rinse and repeat.

For getting feather sparkling white, once washed and towel dried but while still wetish liberaly apply loose chalk and leave to dry. Once dry you can brush them through and they are amazing like that.

Thats exactly what i do with the chalk - i use it all over too :D
 
I like to use baby shampoo with a good slug of purple spray in it... It gets them glowing white and removes grass and urine staining.
