I have found a little pony that seems to fit what I'm looking for. To those of you that have 'field ornaments' what do you insure them for?

Also, I'm a bit rusty at the whole buying thing again- I've asked about current and past health, shoeing, temperament, vacs, worming, anything else?

Also anything else I should consider taking on a 17year old?

Veteran insurance will normally only cover accidental injury....
Normally works better to chuck £25 a month into a separate account and use it if you need to.
17 is termed veteran, but hardly elderly!

My companion pony is the only one I don't insure. I have owned him for 19 years and the veterinary treatment he has needed over that time is less than £300, apart from jabs.
