Fed up of looking like I'm heavy handed when I'm not! I use my seat and legs a lot! But yes on occasion he gets very strong so obvs pull him back to regain balance etc...
He's in a french lench eggbut, it rubbed his mouth so I tried him in the hackamore which he was very happy in however sometimes leant on it, and the chain rubbed him ALTHOU I put a fluffy thing on it... Had him in a cherry roller pelham too, as he leans on the bit sometimes but now I'm completely stuck, wondering if I should try a straight bar? Waterford? Myler etc..
Horse needs a lot of work still and is very green but I only done 20/30 mins tonight and its sore (used the french link)
Any suggestions would be fantastic!!

Id go back to your hackamore until the mouth is healed, if you make sure its fitted so the curb comes into play at 45 degrees, has a guard on it, and get rid if any whiskers in that area hopefully it wont rub again, you could even change to a leather strap.
If he leans on it, try flexing alternate sides and sitting right up and close your upper leg. School him in the slower paces first to get your braking and turning in place, even if it means having to lunge in canter first before you try the faster pace under saddle .
I wouldnt put the bit in again unless its to just sit in his mouth with chamois leather stitched round it and soaked in alum solution to help heal and toughen the corners of his mouth, i know its easy to say, and yes you sometimes need to take a pull especially if out doing faster work, but try not to hold on or he'll just lean more, one healed what about a myler combination bit, that puts pressure in different areas rather than the mouth alone, and cover the corners of his mouth and bit in bit butter ?
Also if you can try a miklem bridle it supports the bit differently in the mouth if the hooks are on and also gives a bit of poll and nose pressure .

thanks, i am currently doing all the slower paces and lots of lateral to relax him and make him more supple etc, think i will pad out the hackamore tbh as it is the one he is most happiest in, going to get owner to get the denist out too.
and funnily enough i do have to do the canter work more on lunge, than ridden unless im out riding and canter will be straight

pm me and I will try and remember to ask my friend. she is 70 and thought she knew every trick in the book, but could not stop the bit rubbing her coloureds mouth.
She told me a few weeks ago about some cream she had found that completely stopped it, she had tried all sorts including 'pile cream' from the chemist lol
