Getting good news from the vets is so alien to me but it finally happened

As some of you know, Shadow had his hocks injected in February and since then we’ve been rehabbing so meticulously. Mostly hacking and slowly introducing trotting over a few weeks. He’s been feeling very fresh recently, like he needed a blast across a field, but I didn’t want to do that until I spoke to the vet.

I’ve been away in Japan for 10 days so my friend was keeping him ticking over for me. I asked her to take a video of him trotting up to send to the vet to see if we can start introducing canter and just got the call to say he’s looking so much better and we can start introducing canter!

Obviously it will be a slow introduction - no full-pelt canters across big fields for us yet - but I’m so happy. It’s what we both need. And then after a few weeks of building up the canter, I’m hoping she will be able to come out and assess him in the school to see if we can start increasing our schooling.

He’s also got his first water treadmill session on Friday. I’m just feeling so positive and happy right now and hoping we are on the way back up again now!

We had our first short canter today and I was expecting a bit of excitement but he just popped into canter sweetly and maintained a lovely steady canter. We only had a short one but honestly I was beaming afterwards. This pony is exactly what I needed after Nova - I could’ve done without the hock issues but he literally doesn’t put a toe out of line
