Getting Gray horse white for showing?

Okay, Does anyone know of any tips and tricks on how to get a gray horse white. She doesn't have any feathers though. I already know of chalk and I heard that vinagar works (I not sure on that one) and also tooth paste is good for grass stains (never tried it personally) plus I use tea tree dermoline horse shampoo.
It needs to be horse products otherwise I won't use it because I'm not allowed.

Any tips and tricks with be super helpful. And also are these horse shampoos any good? and whats your experiance with them and what would you recommend? Thanks

The shampoos are all much of a muchness. I use the Cowboy Magic whitener one as that's what the tack shop sells.

Mostly is just elbow grease. Try and stop her getting stained (so out of peat bogs etc). Brush well before bathing. Rebath next day and scrub any stained bits. Then once dry chalk any bits that won't come out.

And don't worry about it. Faint staining of hocks etc is pretty much expected.
 
Why does it have to be a horse product? I've tried almost every horse shampoo going & the only thing I use now is Johnsons bath bath (the stuff in the blue bottle). He comes out sparkly white without having to spend a bomb on useless purple shampoos :D
 
Lemon fairy liquid works like a dream on white tails. My youngster had been turned out all her life and when she came to me at 3 years she had never had her tail brushed and it was a lovely orangy brown colour. I now keep it plaited all the time and occassionally take it out, wash it with the lemon fairy liquid and then replait and and now its white :D

I am still trying to find a decent product to get stains out of their body. I have found the best technique for prevention is to stable them in a turnout rug.
 
Champion Tails Silver Highlight Shampoo, I've tried them all on no less than 3 greys (yes I am completely mad!) and that is the best one. Then for the tail and stubborn stains I use the stain remover which you dissolve in hot water and add to a bucket to soak the hairs in and rinse- gets them sparkly white. Then for feathers/white socks/stubborn yellow I make a paste of the supreme products whitening powder, paint it on, leave to dry then brush off = super white.
Then coat in shine spray- not saddle area obviously, to keep stains off and wrap up!

I show my grey from the field in the summer, keeps her much much cleaner than stabling, she prefers it and I couldn't bear the thought of making her wear a turnout rug on hot nights. As above the trick is to remove stains as soon as they appear (and clip them all off at the end of the winter ;) )
 
For patches of stains as in not all over supreme products do a white powder that you make into a paste, put it where ever, leave to dry and brush the excess off.

I used it on my greys legs for showing, put it on night before, bandage then take them off at the show. Also used it on any bits I couldnt get really white with washing. Best thing I've found.
 
I use lemon fairy liquid and a second wash of any old blue shampoo. Then I chalk his legs and brush it off the next day. I also have supreme products white powder spray for touch ups outside the ring. Does the job great. Just elbow grease gets it out and sometimes requires more than One wash and warm water makes a difference!!
 
I use champion tails shampoo on my grey and it works well. He's never horrendous but it's made h the 'whitest' out of all the other shampoos and I find it doesn't leave a residue like some other brands
 
..and to scrub those stubborn stains on hocks/knees etc I use one of those shower scrunchies..makes the shampoo go a long way too.
 
Equinade Glo-White Shampoo and Equinade Show Silk conditioner on his body and mane.

To get stains out of a white tail I use Sard Wonder Soap in the tail, then wash it out with Glo-White. Once that is rinsed out, then I put a few drops of Blue-O (laundry optical whitener) in a bucket of water and dunk his tail in it stopping before the dock and let it dry with out rinsing.
To put some moisture back into his tail I use Top Tails. It smells amazing and leaves his tail lovely and silky. :) http://www.phphorse.com/welcome/page2.php
