Getting hairs out of numnah

Can anyone help?!? As you may/may not know, I had my mare pts last week but I have all her stuff which fits my gelding however it is covered with white hairs and I can't get them out. The main item is a Griffin NuMed winter/fluffy numnah which is black and I;ve brushed it, washed it, left it out in the rain and the wind but it's still shedding white hairs all over me and him and it's upsetting me a bit. I'm trying to be practical (numnah cost £40+) so has anyone got any tips on how to get the hairs out??!?

it its a wooly one you could use a carding/wool brush like this...

im sure you get them on ebay etc. i use it on my sheepskin rug and it gets out all the needle hairs that my dog likes to shed everywhere! even ones that youd never know were there!

eta: i would test a small area first, as it might pull out the wool/fluff. the tanning process when making sheepskin rugs means that the wool is stuck well into the hide... thats probably not the case with your numnah

Get some masking sticky tape or the wide sticky tape that you use for packing parcels, cut strips off and wrap around your hand. Pat the numnah until such time as you are happy with the results. It works. Sorry to hear about your mare but in a way its nice to know she still lives on, I know how it feels to lose a horse as I lost one 5yrs ago. Her hairs were on her fleece that fits my horse now for a time. It does get better.
 
One of those wire dog or cat brushes are perfect for the job. And it will fluff it up as well so that's a bonus

Right, am going to hoover, then sticky tape then brush tomorrow and by Sat hopefully I'll have an (almost) hair free numnah!.

I feel your pain, i got given a numed black wool numnah from the owner of a white horse, it's for my jet black mare, i've washed, hoovered, washed, hoovered, even tumble dried on cold and it is still absolutely full of hair so is sat redundant in the tack room....
 
No no no. Sorry, you're all wrong. The absolute sure fire way to get horse hair of any colour off a numnah is to stick the numnah in the washing machine along with an item of your clothing that is a firm favourite and expensive too. Even better is to stick it in with one of your OH's expensive hoodies/sweatshirts/business shirts. It is guaranteed that all the hairs will come off the numnah and stick like bloody glue to the other items.

Anyone know a method to get horse hair off a sweatshirt, undies, towel?
 
Ha ha BoF, soooo true!! There's always an unpleasant lingering odour to contend with too, which unaccountably OH's seem to resent :confused:
