i have just been asked if i will loan out Rio for a photo shoot on tuesday which im fine with so said yes... the thing is hes absolutely disgusting! i have let him roll in the school so now when you touch him he looks white... but thats not good as hes black! i dont really want to bath him as its freezing and he feels the cold very easily also his stable is like a wind tunnel but i also dont have hours to spend grooming him to get him clean again! so any ideas on how to get him clean or am i going to have to bite the bullet and bath him anyway?

thank you!

Get a load of rugs ready, and bath him in warm water as quickly as you can - keeping rugs over the back while you do the front, and vice versa. scrape him off really well, then rug him up with a cooler under a fleece, and walk him til he's nearly dry. He'll be fine

We have to regularly bath one of our oldies, due to a medical condition, he really feels the cold but we have to bath him even through winter so what we do is dry him with a hairdryer! I can see that some horses might freak out but our boy LOVES it so it could be an option, depending on how you think yours would react!

Otherwise I'm sure there will be somebody on here with a genius idea!

Another one who has used a hair dryer on their horses 😳

How about hot clothing? Hot water, dettol, and a tea towel. Groom as normal then add the dettol to the hot water, dunk in the tea towel. Wring it out as much as possible then wipe over the horse, great for stable stains and leaves a lovely shinny coat.

Hot clothing does work if the coat is clipped or very short, it does not have the same effect on a long coat you may have to wash bits, lots of coat spray and clean rugs might help.
