Getting minor over-reaches to heal?

Bob has over-reached on his off fore even though he was wearing rubber over-reach boots when going XC on Monday. It is very minor, it has smply taken the skin off and nothing more, and I have now got him some more heavy duty kevlar over-reach boots!

But I am finding it hard to get the graze to heal? He usually wears over-reach boots all around in the field (to stop him treading on himself and other horses treading on his back shoes...) and every time the graze gets a hard skin on it then the over-reach boot skims it off

I tried putting a melolin pad over the graze today and binding it with vet-wrap, but when I got him in a few hours later the vet wrap etc had just moved and was no longer covering the graze...

Any suggestions please? Other than leaving him in for a few days to allow it to heal (not my preferred option as he loves being turned out and I am competing weekly so want to carry on riding daily) I cannot think how to sort it

I suppose I could try turning him out without front over-reach boots on and hoping for the best...

Have you tried a layer of vaseline or something similar under a rubber boot - presumably he's not over reaching badly in field? Needs as much air to it as poss really to get it to heal. Either that or put a load of duct tape on the top of the shoe (like some SJ'ers do) and leave the boot off on that foot. (Just don't hold me responsible if he pulls the shoe

Sorry I forgot that bit - yes, I started off Sudocreming it then changed to Vaseline after a couple of days, but it still seems to happen...

I am thinking that leaving his boot off is the best option really....eeek

I hereby declare that if he does pull the shoe off I will not hold Scotsmare responsible in any way

Generally if a scab comes off easily it's because the skin beneath is infected. Can you poultice his foot overnight to clean it.

Following that use Active Manuka Honey on it - heals stuff really well - buy it from a Health Food shop - It has to be ACTIVE honey with a rating of 20 or more. Just slather it on.

This is a link to a site in New Zealand of a horse that split its shoulder really badly. From injury to healing was only a matter of about 6 weeks. Horse belongs to a friend of mine. Scroll down to the bottom of the thread to see the photos.
