Getting Oil/tar/greeseyness out of feathers

Had a fab week at camp at Boomerang

however after goign through the water fence nearly every day Bob has come home with black legs! Im guessing its the tar from the chippings to make it all weather

I have tried normal shampoo and extra strength shampoo and whitening stuff and its not made the slightest difference

So does anybody know what i can use

Dad suggested some stuff he uses to get tractor juice off of his hands but its quite gritty so im reluctant to put it on his legs (although thats gotta be better than tar)

Try working in some vegetable oil, until you see it coming out, then shampoo out the oil.

Try lemon fairy liquid and use warm water. This worked on hairy cobs legs better than horse shampoo.
