I recently had a really horrific fall off a horse i have been riding for a friend, was in way the horses fault at all i have to say.I continued riding him and he went to his new owner today.
I feel perfectly confident on him as it was just a bad accident and as i said in no way his fault.
But im now not as confident jumping as i was,has anyone else had anything like this and regained confidence when jumping?

I have been ditched on wings etc in the past, used to love speedy, these days i cant do speedy as i have dirty stop in the back of my head(as a kid i just jumped back on,these days i have alot to lose),my confidence was nil last yr,me and my boy are now jumping 3ft6 at home

,something i would never have believed

,just lower the height you are jumping until you feel confident then go up a notch at a time, tis what we do with our beasties when they lose their confidence and it works for us to

Not jumping, but i was fallen on badly when a horse slipped on a road. That was 4 years ago, my foot will never be the same and i have been scared of roads since.

However recently i have been doing more road work and am finding that i am getting better. Including a road of death which was ridiculously slippy and steep and i thought i might have a heart attack. But they have 3 other feet and although my heart misses a beat when one does slip, i think it really helped that bit of logic push its way back into my head.

Don't know if that's any help, but i think in future i will go with just doing lots of what i'm scared of until i'm not scared any more. Just build it up slowly. And don't expect an instant transformation, but i'm sure you wouldn't.

Hopefully some people will be along shortly with some actual good advice!

It was portable xc hayrack fences we had an oopsie at.

He came in to 1st and put in an extra stride i had not asked for landed badly and took off to soon for 2nd,left a leg behind skimmed over it and hit deck on other side.
I went to to bail out but got my foot stuck just slightly,he jumped up and went vertical and my foot went through stirrup.
I then fell down side of him with my foot still caught and he starting broncing and kicking out.He luckily managed to throw me about shoulder level so i grabbed the saddle and oiked myself over so i could have something to hold on to.
He then calmed down once i had stopped flopping by the side of him and i got back and got my foot out. Then he did a silly little sideways spook and i hit the deck like a sack of you know what.

Went and got checked out but i was fine just some brusing, and i got back on and did same fences next day crapped myself the whole time though.
Now all i can think is sh!t what if horse hits the deck for some reason.

I've had two massive falls this year! It does knock your confidence, but it's a case of time and a gradual re-gain of trust and confidnce, and soon you will be back to your 'usual' comfort zone again!

My bay, Sammi, decided to do a superman impression earliar this year! I was approaching a jump which was little over 3 foot ish, and he decided to take off seven yards out!!

Could have got another stride in and still stood off at that distance, or even chip two ickle ones in!!

But hey, what do I know, I'm only the mere rider lol!!

So we crashed... BIG STYLE!! He tried his best, I tried my best to sit up, but the inevitable happened! He got the top pole stuck between his front legs and snapped it (12 foot wooden pole), the force propelled me out the side door, he flipped over ontop of me and used my face as a buggy board sliding across the paddock

Sammi ended up landing facing the other way, back towards the jump!! I had taken a massive chunk out of the inside of my lip, my teeth neary went straight through! Had concussion, and some bruised ribs

My friend got some action pics!

Here I am 'attempting' to sit up... (the expression on my face says it all lol)....

Two weeks later, I was jumping an open cross country again! Fair enough I was slightly anxious, but once I got into the first few fences, my bad feelings vanished, and I loved the course! I overcome my fears yey

A useful piece of advice - My dad use to always say, 'sometimes you have to jump into these things feet first'

I had a bad fall in the summer was horses fault (not mine and 1st time I rode him) standing about 2 dimount and feet out of stirrups and sis took pony out of sight he went straight up and over in seconds we hit the floor @ the same time and he landed on me and then stood on my leg had a nasty break 2 my femur. I was ridng my own in 2months I have since rode my sisters Welsh but not confident in gettin on another horse yet I've jumped my Welsh but mine cant jump yet due 2 injury which means we can start small and work our way up in height when I get the all clear with him.

I've fallen off a ridiculous amount of times jumping (I worked in a riding school and we had a lot of youngsters, as well training new horses to jump to a riding school standard), also through Pony Club, ODE's etc... the key to getting your confidence back is starting small - do the basics, and build the height to how you want it and include a lot of gridwork - it's slowly getting my confidence back. It takes time, so don't think you need to be in a rush to get it back, because that tends to make things worse! Try getting on a schoolmaster and jump what you want to and go from there - it'll take time, but build it up slowly and you'll have to back soon enough

goodluck and keep us posted! x

I went from being terrified of going over a six inch 'jump' when I bought my horse (after 2 broken ribs and in a separate fall almost exactly one year later a broken collar bone), and this was me the other day:
