need advice on getting my bay welsh pony clean for her first show next week. she is quite hairy and very very greasy on top of her coat and if you lift her coat up.

so whats best advice to get this bay pony clean and shining without bathing.

A bath the night before! Sorry I know its not what you want to hear! Rug up inc neck cover or bodysuit over night and any extra sponging in the morning!

If you really can't bath her then a huge amount of elbow grease. You may be able to lift some of the grease with the dettol trick mentioned above - but if she has a very thick coat that may not get through to the base. A really thorough going over with a body brush every day for several days will slowly draw the grease up the hair shaft and let you remove it. You might have to clean the brush in between.

It will take some considerable effort - and you probably won't have a result as good as a quick bath. Is it that you don't want her to get cold, or does she hate baths?

groom groom groom and groom.....

also you can try hot ragging her to try and steam a bit of the grease off her

if you don't want to bath her then like Shay says - much grooming has to happen.

And people wonder why horsey people have big biceps...

If you dont want to bath because she could get cold... use warm water and work on sections at a time, covering the rest of her with a rug.
If she doesnt like it and you want to show her regularly then she will have to get used to it! Im sorry to be blunt but a dirty horse will be spotted in seconds in the show ring.

In the first post you said it was her first show??
How have you managed previously then? If she has been out at 'top level' (presumably with you?) before then you must know how to prepare her for a show?

sponge her with really hot water with white vinegar in. do it for a few days before the show and show sheen. Really cleans the coat without proper bathing. My 2 have a show next week and thats what i will be doing
