I have recently been doing a bit more jumping, and last night was having a go at raising the height, but still in trot as I will admit to being slightly nervous in canter.
We got to 2ft 10.5 and although he was giving it LOADS of clearance - so was I! I am a very heels down rider, and due to past falls etc I really plant my lower leg and sit up when riding into a fence. But despite having long boots on, which do grip the sides of the saddle, and I know I am folding as OH did impression of me
and it feels comfortable and secure when he first takes off, the minute he is like just going over I get bumped up, so much so that although I am landing on and not pecking my foot actually kept getting stuck in my left stirrup.
As I have now got a bit more confidence in Beau (he REALLY reads his rider, if I falter or am half hearted he WILL stop) I am ok cantering over around 2ft.
I used to easily canter (even bareback) with my 1st horse over 3ft+, but Beau has a definate 'pop' when he jumps, and he is a lot livelier and up for it when u get past 2ft 6.
Other than lessons I am saving up) does anyone have any suggestions? I know he is cepable of jumping 3ft+ tracks and going clear and I would LOVE to be able to do this at some point, and I know I was capable of it.
