No offence aimed at anyone but people begrudge vets bills to such an extent, yet at 2 in the morning when your horse has colic you do expect them to turn up asap and have the right drugs to hand to treat any issue. They have to keep the show on the road somehow. I know you don't see many poor vets but their overheads are amazing. And just think how big their student loans must be.
I agree with you and in those circumstances I pay the hefty bill happily, same with meds needed at the time and I do appreciate that they, like any other business have overheads to cover.
When I changed small animal vets I moved to a practice that actually has a higher consultation charge and who run their own out of hours service. Now that I no longer have the older animals, financially I would probably be better off at my old vets as (touch wood) they only see the vets once or twice a year and I could take advantage of their booster and dental offers but I prefer to use a practice that is more transparent in their pricing and more professional all round.I don't like it being implied that I don't care enough about my animals if I purchase elsewhere! Both my equine vet and these will actually offer a prescription if a routine drug is available cheaper on line - equine vet charges £10 and small animal vet costs £8 I think. Luckily it's been a while since I've had a pet on long term meds...
