Getting really fed up and down with transport issues :-(

I also feel your pain - Im moving to a new yard that doesn't hold competitions and have no transport.
As my license is post-97, I can't tow a trailer or drive a lorry over 3.5t :(
I hate not having transport :mad:

Hopefully, I'll be able to sit my HGV test next year. My dad wants to compete when his horse comes over so he'll need to get a lorry (which i'll nick :rolleyes:)
 
Hi - I am fortunate enough to have a 4x4 and a trailer (equitrek so very stable and enclosed more like a lorry so I dont worry on the motorway) however before I had my current jeep cherokee I had a freelander - they are a good compromise as they are better on fuel then most proper 4x4 but will tow one horse in a something like an ifor 505 - I did tow my horse for a few months using the freelander and it was fine (wouldnt tow 2 or a big trailer though) . If you had a freelander or similar you could hire a trailer when you need it or possibly even buy one. Another alternative might be to join a riding club near you and go along without horse to get to know a few people and you might find someone who has a 4x4 but no trailer who would be glad to go halves on renting one or even someone who may be glad of money for fuel if taking you - if you get together with somone off your yard it takes the pressure off as you can both do you own thing and then club together when necessary.

just a thought ! good luck - it is well worth all the dosh if you can splash out for transport of your own though (sat on sofa waiting for rubber pipe for car engine in jeep which has just cost me £200) ahhhhhh
 
I can sympathise with you about how frustrating it must be to have no transport! We had no transport when I was a kid so ended up hacking to local shows and pony club but that seemed to be the norm as not many people had their own transport then!
I am lucky enough to have 4x4 and trailer now however I will now only give lifts to someone if I have a spare place in the trailer! I give lifts to my lovely Y/O's daughter sometimes if we are going to the same event but I always get given a bottle of wine or a nice cake and they then return the favour by giving us lifts. In the past, I have done many favours such as picking up new liveries horse to bring to yard but have to say a bottle of wine is not worth it for time, effort and cost of fuel. It does start to make you feel like you are being taken advantage of if they don't do you any favours back. I won't take cash because of insurance/ legal reasons.
 
I'm 20, I'm lucky enough to keep my horses on a small yard for free, it's just me there, and a friend comes and rides with me three times a week.
I don't live at home, I have my own car and 4 horses to deal with.
I'm recently self employed (yayyyy!!) and also work part time three evenings a week in a shop.

There is no way in hell I could afford a lorry, and I can't afford to run a 4x4 to tow. I drive a fiat punto atm, and my parents still have to help me with that! My family are fairly well off money wise, but not rich by anyones standards, and I am most certainly not 'privilaged' in any way! Apart from my car what I spend is what I earn!

My friend of the same age, who is at uni, lives at home etc has saved and bought a box, but her parents insure it for her, they also baought her a brand new car and insure it for her as she crashed her old one! Her parents are well off though, and her dad spoils her to the max!

It does annoy me, as I really would like to get my youngsters out and about more often, but we have a very nice man near us who lets us hire his trailer on occassion for £10 a go, also the lady who owns where I keep my horse has a car that will tow it. I am also about 45mins hack away from lincomb XC, so we can go there.

But Hopefully when my business is really off the ground I can start saving up :) I'd love a little 3.5t lorry! I don't need a big huge bus, just something to pootle about to local places in....
