Danny's turned a corner after his starvation day but at the moment he's only interested in Tessie's JWB (pouch) and dad's cake. I've boiled him some chicken, which is obviously good because madam wants some, but all he does is turn his head away and look at me with big soft eyes - to which he gets a 'go without then' and all food taken away.

Perhaps he's a bit cautious/still feeling a bit sick? He accepted a bit of dad's angel cake (bad daddy, gave it to him before I could stop him

, he kept it down though). I've been smearing honey around his gums periodically to keep his sugar levels up but he's losing condition and I don't like him to look so pitiful

Do you think he'll eventually get the message and take a little bit of chicken? Or should I try him with a small amount of JWB wet/Naturediet chicken?

Personally I would try small amounts of whatever he will eat:rolleyes:. Despite the enormous amounts of strange foods my two eat - hoof trimmings, whole pheasants, petrified hares/rabbits/pheasants, horse & sheep poo, curry etc etc my two both have guts of steel as nothing seems to affect them:rolleyes:.....*touches wood*

The other thing to try is a small cup of hot bovril either on its own or poured over food - is beefy tasting and smelling so they love it.:)

Might not be particularly recommended but ive always found chicken soup and/or rice pudding acceptable to any of mine. I dont make it myself Im afraid, Tescos tinned stuff usually but the soup with a bit of dry bread soaked in it or just warm rice pud usually get lapped up and stay down. Obviously I dont know what your doggies problem is so this may be completely unsuitable, in which case, just ignore me!

Im sure it would be fine made up with water. Just offer a tablespoon or two and see if that stays down.

Unless there is a good reason not to I would be offering very small helpings of anything the dog will eat. Chicken and rice always go down well in out house for rehab tummies as does tinned tuna or salmon (not the ones packed in salt water though).

Is he the lurcher in your sig? I have found "go without" doesn't always work with every lurcher, maybe because they start to look so awful so quickly you're embarrassed to be seen with the dog! ;)

One of mine would only eat rice boiled with chicken when he was ill (literally as in I boiled the rice with added semi-cooked chicken pieces) or scrambled eggs. He would also eat yogurt but when he had meds mixed in I had to go to vanilla ice cream! I did find though, after he got eating again, he quickly went back to normal.

He had a little bit of chicken soup and a little bit of JWB wet at 4:30/5:30 respectivly and it's now past 8 and there's no sign of heaving or rejection. Actually he keeps mooching around the kitchen looking for more food -eyeroll-

I ended up giving madam the chicken seeing as she just would not.shut.up while it was on the side. Not a bad deal, seeing as I've pinched one of her pouches of food. I think I've got some tuna in oil in the cupboard that I bought a few months back, might try him with that in the morning instead of his usual breakfast. I might scramble him an egg for his lunch too.

And yeah, he's the lurcher in the sig. He does look awful at the moment, I dunno what anyone else would think to see him - he might not look too bad to an outsider but to me he looks dreadful. Definatly need to get that weight back on him once he's better :o

Here's hoping that the little he's had stays down tonight and that we've seen the back of sleepless nights spent in and out to the garden (and bad backs from sleeping on the sofa!)

Chicken and rice cooked together[breast fillet!!!!!],plain cake,no icing/cream,cracker biscuits, plain yoghurt, cottage cheese, pasta,Nutrigel[from vets]makes good flavouring.I am just going through this with Shirley Bassette, who has been quite ill with an acute gastritis and sorrowfully turns her head away when offered food.Try feeding little bits by hand when you are eating, always tastes better off Mum's plate.
