Getting rid of dog wee!!!

Ok my little ***** of a 7 month old puppy, keeps running downstairs silently and before I realise he does a little tinkle on the mat (its stuck down, so I cant replace it) I let him out all the time so he is being naughty!!! Im going to put a stair gate up to stop him going downstairs later, but how do I get rid of the smell so he isnt so likely to do it again!!!!

Biological washing powder is good - sprinkle some on, brush it in, leave to dry and hoover up.

I used it when my black lab was younger. It may stay a little white for a bit, but will gradually go. I was recommended it by the breeder who is also a friend.

It's the bicarbonate of soda in the washing powder that gets rid of the smell so you can just use it instead. You can just sprinkle it on, leave it for a while (as long as you can but 4hrs should do it) and then hoover it up.

A steam cleaner will do it, the smell is caused by bacteria and the dry steam kills all bacteria so therefore killing the smell, it will freshen and clean up the mat and the beauty of steam cleaning is no harsh chemicals needed, just water
