I recently purchased an over weight gelding. I have managed to get a good amount of weight off by exercise (although in fairness this could be upped) and restricted grazing in a paddock which has been grazed all summer and has very little on. He is in at night with a small haynet. He has lost a fair amount of weight and I can feel his ribs and his neck no longer has the creasty look BUT he has 2 large fat pads behind his saddle area that will not shift. I would like to do some showing with him but do not want to take him anywhere with these. Any idea on how to get rid of these? A local feed person has said that these sometimes will never go as a result of a horse being fat for so long. Any ideas? I don't really want him eventer fit but are there any schooling exercises that would target these areas?
