Getting rid of horse dandruff

Mare came in from field with hives at the weekend. The lumps went down within a few hours and she’s had no other reaction, nor has she been sore or itchy. However what’s left behind is dry flaky pimples. Like raised bits of dandruff. Any recommendations on what I can use to get rid of this - we are supposed to be competing at the weekend and as she’s clipped, the dandruff is very obvious! Thanks.

Try some sudocrem on them or aloe vera gel ?

That’s interesting - not heard of that. I have been using Nafs Love the skin balm, but not sure how much is getting to the skin and how much is sitting on the coat, but an oil would definitely get through to the skin.

Other than a warm wash with a dandruff shampoo I wouldn't put anything on it. I think the risk of irritating the skin with a new product and making it worse is greater than any benefit.

I'd try that. Just make sure you rinse well.

The skin is already dry, I wouldn’t strip it any further or you could aggravate it more? I would do a non sulphur pig oil wipe or perhaps a rinse with something like Avon skin so soft?

Hot shower and a calming shampoo. A horse oat shampoo maybe and some cetraben to soothe the skin

Yes, a reaction to something in the environment but no idea what and vet not concerned. No exposure to anything new, but she’s turned out in field so could have rolled on something as it’s only her neck and face.
