Hi I'm looking for a cob for my 9 YO daughter, and have been to look at a 14hh cob, quite responsive and forward going, but steady. Do you think that this is too big for her? she has been riding for around 3 years but can be nervous. thanks for any advice

Depends on the cob and your daughter. A responsive, forward going but polite cob is better than an unresponsive stubborn mule for keeping your daughter interested in riding.

Choose the horse first and the size later! My daughter got our 14hh cob X at 7 and was tiny on him. But he was (and is) such an angel the fact she couldn't mount from the ground for a couple of years didn't matter one bit. If the temperament is right take him.

A friend bought a 14hh NFx mare for her sons, the younger one was 8 and a complete beginner but the older one was 11 and had ridden a bit before. The little mare who had been driven and a broodmare looked after them both and brought them both on. She was perfect for them but others ponies of the same size might not have been.

i'd a 15hh connemara when i was a tiny six year old. once its the right personality and they click go for it. I got many happy years growing into my old lad.
